You might have lots of questions, be wondering how to begin Ballet School, where can you go for children’s ballet dance lessons, what clothing and shoes are required, what ages are classes aimed at, where are the lessons held, and above all – how much will it cost?
At Dance Scene, we think we have the answers.
We make it as easy as possible for Children to begin to dance. We offer a free trial ballet lesson for your child to try it out and see if they enjoy it. You don’t need to spend money on dance clothing or ballet shoes to begin. Come along in comfortable clothing and we can lend you some shoes.
If you want to join a class, we can help you find the right uniform choices for your budget. You will find our ballet lessons are good value for money, fun, and thanks to our highly-qualified staff, your child will be up and dancing in no time.

All about our Ballet Lessons
Where are classes held?
We hold classes in 2 locations. Both are easily accessible to residents of Harlow, West Essex and East Herts.
Dance Studios at Harlow College on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
Harlow College, Velizy Ave, Harlow CM20 3EZ
Churchgate Street Primary School on Wednesdays and Saturdays
Hobbs Cross Road, Churchgate Street, Harlow, Essex, CM17 0L
Which classes will be suitable for my child
Your child will be placed in a class with children of a similar age and ability. Ballet lessons are structured and fun. Each begins with a warm up routine so that everyone is ready to dance safely. The students learn the moves, principles and techniques of ballet dancing as well as the underpinning knowledge, such as the correct terminology for each move.
Depending upon their class, pupils may work towards a performance or prepare for an external examination.
Dance Clothing, Ballet Shoes & Accessories
You don’t need to buy a lot of new kit before starting ballet lessons. We encourage you to come for a trial lesson before you enrol with us and suggest you wear comfortable clothing. Sports kit or leggings are suitable. We can lend you a pair of shoes to try out.
Ballet Lessons | Important Information
Our staff are DBS checked and follow Safeguarding Good Practice Guidelines. Please speak to a member of staff if you wish to raise any issues.
Parents and other adults will be invited to watch the last class of each term. Outside of these times family members are not allowed in the classroom during lessons. Your child will be released to you by a member of staff at the end of the lesson.
We will ask you for your contact details, should we ever need to contact you in an emergency. Please remember to let us know if any of your details change. Teaching staff are trained in first aid.
Arriving ready for your lesson
We recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before your lesson so that you have time to get ready.
Food & Drink
You might wish to bring a bottle of water with you, but please don’t bring fizzy drinks to class. If you are doing more than one class and wish to bring a small snack. please avoid messy foods such as chocolate.
What might Ballet Lessons lead to?
It’s up to you. But whether you want to be a principal ballerina or have some fun and improve your fitness and posture Ballet classes are an excellent grounding.
We are proud that many of our students have gone on to dance or performing arts courses and have appeared in professional productions, including those in the West End. Other students have gone on to careers in teaching. Whatever your child’s ambition, we can help them work towards it.
