What Do I Need to Bring?
Learning to dance means that you will need the correct equipment and gear, starting with a comfortable, easy to move in outfit. Ballet usually requires tights and a leotard, but you can go for leggings and a tight vest or leotard underneath.
If you are not too comfortable bearing your body so much, you can wear a fitted top and stretchy pants of some kind, as long as they don’t get in your way or hinder your movement in any way. Other than this, you should tie your hair up and keep bangs and wispy bits away from your face with a head band or clips.
One very important item to bring with you is water, as you need to drink a fair amount while you dance, but more importantly for right after your lesson.
Also, bring a towel, because you will definitely sweat. Another important thing to get are proper shoes. You will need to get shoes based on the type of dancing you want to do.
For instance ballet pumps, tap shoes, jazz shoes, lightweight sneakers, or you can start without shoes for some of the dance classes.
How Does Dancing Benefit Me?
There are many ways that learning to dance can benefit you in everyday life. Aside from the obvious weight loss and fitness benefits, as well as toning and flexibility, dancing is a lot of fun! It is an effective stress reducer and because it is always different, you don’t get bored of it like you would doing the same old thing at the gym every day.
It will improve your memory, as you will need to start remembering routines when trying to create a dance fusion! Plus it will help you become lighter on your feet and more nimble, as you change direction, move quickly and often have very complex steps to do to fast music.
Improving your posture through strengthening your core is very important for everyone as this helps you with other ailments and prevents muscular problems, spinal problems, ligament and joint problems and more.
Aside from all the health and physical benefits, learning to dance is something that gives you passion in your life. You want to dance because you love it, you love music and you move grooving.
It gives you a sense of accomplishment and allows you to let loose and get down, which is great to do after a long day at the office, where you have probably been sitting behind a desk all day getting stiff and sore. Dancing will relieve this pressure and loosen up your body.
Learning to dance gives you more than just movement. It also provides you with musicality. You can learn how to listen to music, and determine where the pauses are, how to count it, and pretty soon you will be able to hear where a piece of music will change tempo, where other instruments will come in, and start gaining an understanding for the musical part of dancing. It gives you a greater appreciation of different types of music.
